Stud book numbers and their country codes
If you, as a cynologist who is not familiar with questions about a dog's origins, have a dog's pedigree in front of you, the various stud book numbers and club and country abbreviations of a dog are often not understandable or familiar to everyone.
Therefore, I have compiled a list here that will give you some information about the country of origin and the stud book-keeping association.
First of all: for the sake of accuracy, a dog's pedigree certificate should always include the stud book number the dog received after birth and registration with the stud book-keeping association/country. Often, a dog is imported or exported from abroad and, along with its breeding license, receives a new breeding license number from the country in which it is now to be used for breeding. This often causes considerable confusion... Why, for example, does a dog sold from Finland with the FCI country code FIN suddenly receive an AKC breeding license number from the American Kennel Club?
This procedure means that the interested reader, who is not familiar with this subject, will mistakenly assume that this dog is, for example, an American-bred dog.
Therefore, the birth stud book number should always be used in the stud books and any newly assigned breeding approval number should be entered as stud book number two or as a clearly declared breeding approval number.
It is also negligent to omit the club that maintains the stud book or its abbreviation and only enter the number. So, to illustrate, for example, BQO1234 instead of KUSA BQO1234 - this basically makes it impossible for the reader to know where the dog is from or in which country register it was actually registered... With the appropriate expertise and knowledge of the kennel, this becomes clear to the expert.... It may be clear to many that the Champs Elysee is in Paris, France - but for a declaration of origin and description, this information belongs in a correct birth certificate, which after all represents a dog's pedigree. Here I have summarized the clubs that maintain the stud book and their abbreviations. This list now makes it possible for you to trace your dog's breeding origins using your proof of ancestry. The RRBC eV only records the breeding countries of origin and their clubs. If the information is not available or is incorrect, it is often a lot of work for the stud book office to google the correct stud book numbers or to contact other stud book-keeping associations in order to obtain the original stud book number of an animal. We pay a lot of attention to this and compile our pedigrees carefully. If you have any questions about your dog's pedigree that are not clear to you from these explanations, please feel free to contact us; we will be happy to help you trace and demonstrate your dog's breeding origins.
