The topic this time will be: Does the Rhodesian Ridgeback need crossbreeding due to its low genetic diversity?

If so, which breed might be suitable? If not, why shouldn't the gene pool be expanded, even though geneticists strongly recommend it?

We also want to explain how to work with the ISAG Profile 2020 from Laboklin, whose great possibilities are far too little known and therefore unused.

It is independent of any club and everyone is welcome to participate free of charge.

The exhibition is being held in conjunction with our umbrella organization, the IHV eV. This gives our visitors the opportunity to win two titles in one day.

Zoom - Webinar "First Aid for Dogs" on March 23, 2023

The Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club eV and its members participate in the “Center for Dogs Swabia” offered First Aid Zoom Webinar with Dr. Georg Unfried on March 23, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. part.

Would everyone know what to do in an emergency to help their dog?

We are looking forward to working with the Center for Dogs in Swabia and would like to thank you in advance for allowing us to attend the seminar.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club covers 50 percent of the costs for its members because we believe that the club's income from its members should also benefit them.

We are pleased to welcome our young breeding supervisor, Silvia Heitmeier, for the Bavaria region. Ms. Heitmeier is the first breeding supervisor to complete her training through our umbrella organization and successfully completed it at the end of February.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club congratulates and wishes Ms. Heitmeier much joy and success.

The registration certificate for the male "Cooper of Spirian Fire" issued by the Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club eV is officially revoked. The club feels compelled to take this action because the parentage cannot be analytically verified. The breeding approval of the male by the DRRC eV and its evaluations remain unaffected.

Theme: Temperament test for breeding approval – really useful or unnecessary?

This type of temperament test is only established in Germany. Hence our question: Is it useful or not? Can behavior and passing the test ultimately be conditioned, revealing nothing about the animal's true nature? Questions upon questions! Why is this type of temperament test only available in Germany? If it makes sense, why don't we hear about this type of temperament test from other associations abroad? We'd like to discuss this topic with you. Discuss, argue, and chat with us in a friendly atmosphere.

Theme: On December 17, 2022, the first "Rhodesian Ridgeback Virtual Global Gathering" took place, hosted by Orit Nevo. Representatives from over 20 countries participated and presented the latest findings in research, husbandry, breeding, and hunting. We also participated and would like to report on the results presented there and then chat in a relaxed virtual setting.

In the beautiful Lüneburg Heath we want to come together for a happy get-together in the idyllic holiday village of Weinberghof.

For those traveling from further afield, there's the option of staying overnight with your dog, family, and all in one of the lovely little cottages. A small, enjoyable program will accompany the day. We are already looking forward to a great Ridgeback day....

New genetic test at Labogen:

Hereditary deafness (EOAD) in Rhodesian Ridgebacks

The disease involves, among other things, a deterioration of the cochlea, which is important for hearing, resulting in a loss of the acoustic sensory cells in the inner ear. In addition, some affected puppies may have abnormal or missing ear stones (otoconia), which are normally required for movement perception and cause balance problems. In Rhodesian Ridgebacks, a mutation in the EPS8L2 gene causes a form of hereditary deafness that leads to hearing loss between the ages of one and two. This form is also called early-onset adult deafness (EOAD).

We - the Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club would like to Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 3 p.m. We're inviting you to a Zoom/webinar with Sian Hall from Africa. The topic will revolve around historical hunting in Africa, the use of native dogs, and the development of the Rhodesian Ridgeback from this... Sian Hall is an anthropologist and long-time expert on African dog breeds. She is the author of the book "Dogs of Africa" and has studied the breed's historical roots and its early breeders in depth... The seminar will be held in English, but there will be direct translation... Time will be set aside for questions and discussion afterward.

We cordially invite you to this webinar. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club will cover the seminar costs. The seminar will be followed by a follow-up in March or April, which will focus on the development of the Rhodesian Ridgeback up to the present day in Africa.

New genetic test for Rhodesian Ridgebacks

A genetic variant of the QIL1 gene has been found in the Rhodesian Ridgeback, which is associated with a heart condition called ventricular arrhythmia (IVA). The QIL1 gene encodes a protein involved in the assembly and distribution of mitochondrial membrane invaginations and is therefore important for cellular energy production.

Affected dogs exhibit ventricular and/or supraventricular tachycardia (rapid heart rate) and cardiac arrhythmias, usually between 6 and 18 months of age. In some cases, this can even lead to sudden cardiac death.

The African Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder, anthropologist and researcher Sian Hall,

The author of the book "The Dogs of Africa" invites you to an online presentation and talks in her newly founded Facebook group "Rhodesian Ridgeback Zoom and Internet Presentations." The idea is to offer a 40-minute talk followed by an opportunity for discussion. Interested? Knowledge of English or a translator would be advantageous. Anyone interested can also prepare a contribution. Joining the Facebook group allows you to follow the contributions and discussions. The RRBC's goal and the inspiration behind its creation are to support, promote, and present historical and current research on the breed. We look forward to your participation, listening, and attending.
