FERAGEN! NEWS! The Feragen genetics laboratory has put together a comprehensive genetic testing package for us. The package includes testing for coat color and hereditary diseases, and, if desired, the ISAG DNA profile. Ridge strength can also be tested there upon request. This has the advantage that only a blood sample needs to be sent to a laboratory. Of course, you can also forgo ridge gene testing. More detailed information about the package and the test form for download can be found in the password-protected members' area. We are pleased to be working with the Feragen laboratory....
Welcome to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Breed Club eV
In March 2021, a group of like-minded individuals, experts, and lovers of the breed, decided to establish a Rhodesian Ridgeback Club. Its focus, in addition to the well-established breeding of standard-compliant, typical Rhodesian Ridgebacks, will also be on the scientific development of the gene pool and the discussion of the question "Quo vadis, Rhodesian Ridgeback?" Our team will strive to find answers, think outside the box, promote innovative thinking, and engage in tolerant, unbureaucratic exchange. Progress instead of stagnation. The Rhodesian Ridgeback has changed over the past decade. Read more...

We at RRBC eV would like to invite you again to our online meeting on Friday evening, April 14, 2023 at 8:15 p.m..
The topic this time will be: Does the Rhodesian Ridgeback need crossbreeding due to its low genetic diversity?
If so, which breed might be suitable? If not, why shouldn't the gene pool be expanded, even though geneticists strongly recommend it?
We also want to explain how to work with the ISAG Profile 2020 from Laboklin, whose great possibilities are far too little known and therefore unused.
It is independent of any club and everyone is welcome to participate free of charge.
We look forward to a lively exchange on the topic and are looking forward to seeing you. If you are interested, please contact the stud book office as always. We will then forward the Zoom invitation link to you.

Theme: Temperament test for breeding approval – really useful or unnecessary?
This type of temperament test is only established in Germany. Hence our question: Is it useful or not? Can behavior and passing the test ultimately be conditioned, revealing nothing about the animal's true nature? Questions upon questions! Why is this type of temperament test only available in Germany? If it makes sense, why don't we hear about this type of temperament test from other associations abroad? We'd like to discuss this topic with you. Discuss, argue, and chat with us in a friendly atmosphere.
We welcome controversial exchanges, so join us....
If you're interested, please contact the stud book office as always. We'll then forward the Zoom invitation link to you.

New genetic test at Labogen:
Hereditary deafness (EOAD) in Rhodesian Ridgebacks
The disease involves, among other things, a deterioration of the cochlea, which is important for hearing, resulting in a loss of the acoustic sensory cells in the inner ear. In addition, some affected puppies may have abnormal or missing ear stones (otoconia), which are normally required for movement perception and cause balance problems. In Rhodesian Ridgebacks, a mutation in the EPS8L2 gene causes a form of hereditary deafness that leads to hearing loss between the ages of one and two. This form is also called early-onset adult deafness (EOAD).

New genetic test for Rhodesian Ridgebacks
A genetic variant of the QIL1 gene has been found in the Rhodesian Ridgeback, which is associated with a heart condition called ventricular arrhythmia (IVA). The QIL1 gene encodes a protein involved in the assembly and distribution of mitochondrial membrane invaginations and is therefore important for cellular energy production.
Affected dogs exhibit ventricular and/or supraventricular tachycardia (rapid heart rate) and cardiac arrhythmias, usually between 6 and 18 months of age. In some cases, this can even lead to sudden cardiac death.
You can find more information about this disease and the genetic test
